About Us



The Latino Canadian Scholarship Fund founded in 2015, is a registered charity governed by an independent board of directors that works in partnership with volunteers and donors to invest in high-school students wishing to continue with higher education.


Mission

To support the needs of students who are pursuing degrees in all disciplines, especially those who, because of economic or social circumstances, might have seen higher education as an unattainable goal.

Vision

To have at least one university graduate in each Latino-Canadian family.

Goals


  • To increase the enrollment of Latino-Canadian high-school students in University or College education.
  • To develop and improve the communication between parent and student concerning the pursuit of post-secondary education.
  • Raise public awareness of the need for greater investments in post-secondary education.

Are LCSF scholarships based on merit of financial need?

Scholarships are based on merit. Financial need will be taken into consideration to determine the amount of the award.

How much are LCSF awards?

LCSF scholarship award amounts range from $ 1000- $6000, based on the student’s financial aid package.

What may the scholarship funds be used for?

Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books and other academic related supplies, as well as for room/board and transportation expenses related to school.

Are scholarships renewable?

LCSF scholarships are single-year awards. However, we encourage students to re-apply for scholarships, each year, as new applicant.

What are the non-financial benefits of LCSF scholarships?

Benefits include programs and services that will help you excel while you are in university/college and achieve a successful transition to the career of your choice.

Does LCSF verify the information applicants enter into the application?

LCSF has the discretion to randomly verify selected scholarships applications to ensure the validity of the information entered in applications.  LCSF verifies all required documentation.

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To ensure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the non-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.

IV.

To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.

VI.

To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.

To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.

To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.

To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.

To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
